Take your Facebook ad performance to the next level by combining Pixel and Conversion API (CAPI) tracking. This guide helps you understand the why and how.
Using only the traditional Facebook Pixel (browser-side tracking) means your data is vulnerable to:
Cookie blockers & Ad blockers
iOS 14+ tracking restrictions
Connectivity issues
That’s where Conversion API (CAPI) comes in. It sends events from the server-side, ensuring that your conversions are still captured—even when the Pixel is blocked.
By combining both, you:
Improve event tracking accuracy
Boost ROAS with better data matching
Reduce ad costs by optimizing for higher-quality audiences
When Pixel and CAPI work together, you maximize coverage and signal quality for Meta’s algorithms.
Facebook has changed from the traditional "Pixel-only" model. Now, Pixel ID resides within Dataset - a new "container" that combines multiple data sources:
Website events
Mobile app events
Offline conversions
Messaging interactions
How you track events DOES NOT change - you still do it the same way. Your Pixel ID is now technically your Dataset ID (only the technical name is different).
Example: If you previously entered Pixel ID "1234" into the tool, now you'll enter Dataset ID "1234" - everything still works normally!
Why is this change beneficial?
Dataset helps Facebook consolidate all data (web, app, offline, etc.) into one single place, enabling more accurate ad optimization.
Go to Business Settings in Facebook Business Manager
Navigate to Data Sources → Datasets
Click Add
Enter your Dataset's name and click Create
The Dataset ID you just created is your new Pixel ID
Try these simple tips to make your tracking setup work even better:
Use Test Events in Meta Events Manager to verify server + browser events are received correctly
Prioritize high-signal events like Purchase, Initiate Checkout, and Add Payment Info for optimization
Avoid duplicates: Our app deduplicates browser/server events by default using event_id
With increasing privacy restrictions, server-side tracking (CAPI) is essential for any advertiser. When you use both Facebook Pixel and CAPI together, you’ll get more complete and accurate data—helping you run better ads and grow your business with confidence.
